Wesley's mission is to provide for an alternative community for students and the larger University campus. Our focus is upon three primary goals: community, service, and worship.

Most every university organization strives to make themselves a unique community for students, and in that, we are no different. Many organizations also incorporate service projects into their focus, just as we. Most have an understanding of a religious heritage and have at least some sort of spiritual guidance. So what makes campus ministry at Wesley different than any other campus group?

At Wesley, we strive to be intentional in the creation of alternative community. That is, community intentionally directed toward God and the love and acceptance of one another. We feel that a life that is actively seeking God is a life that is outwardly focused, a life that is open to daily transformation and change. It's one thing to gather community around the individual, the individual's needs and wants. And to be sure, we, like every other gathering of people, are made up of individuals with our own desires and at times selfish pursuits. But we strive to be more than that, and do more than focus on the "I" and "me."

The path from "me" to "we" is a lifelong journey. It's not a destination that we arrive at, but a process of discovery. And it's often rather unclear how to walk this kind of journey. It is, after all, a journey of faith. Whenever people are committed to discovering and experiencing this kind of journey, there is the possibly of authentic alternative community.

We do not have a patent on this kind of community. In this sort of journey you have to make it up as you go, and there are no short-cuts. And we have a long way to go. We're not a "holier-than-thou" group of Christians. We don't want to be, either! We're still figuring out what it really means to love one another. It really is a journey.
